About

Gary Paul Stephenson has loved the natural world since childhood, learning to grow plants and vegetables organically under the guidance of his father’s gardener. Surrounded by family pets — including beloved dogs and his own Dutch rabbit — he developed a lifelong affection for animals. Growing up during the turbulent British political climate of the 1980s, and later building an international career, sparked his interest in politics and storytelling. It was during these formative years that he began writing his first novel and numerous poems.

As demands from work, family life, and frequent travel mounted, Gary set aside his writing. He spent his spare moments at home enjoying family time and long country walks with his wife and their Border Collie. A holiday to his ancestral homeland ultimately inspired the family’s decision to settle permanently in New Zealand.

A life-changing diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis reignited Gary’s passion for writing. To sharpen his craft, he completed a creative writing course with distinction in July 2014. Drawing on his deep love of the environment and his interest in contemporary politics, he created The Charles Langham Series — a thrilling blend of environmental and political fiction. Gary is proud to be a member of the New Zealand Writers Guild.

Today, Gary lives in New Zealand with his wife. He is a father of three, and a grandfather to a granddaughter and a grandson. When he’s not writing, he enjoys travel, winemaking, propagating shrubs, growing vegetables, and spoiling his two mischievous Dutch house rabbits.
